Review
In place of the prissy Regency Revival, she offered a relaxed old-money look, part opulent, part hand-me-down. Chippendale mirrors and Aubusson rugs were undercut by patchwork quilts and crocheted throws, and personalised by flashes of garish colour and painted floors. Above all, as Martin Wood shows, it was the approachability of her rooms - 'comfortable for forty, comfortable for four' - that saw her ferocious peke hold sway for so long. World of Interiors

Disappointing.....
By A Book Collector
There is nothing in this attempt at a comprehensive monograph of Sister Parish and her work that hasn't been done better before. If you've read Parish-Hadley by Christopher Petkanis and the Crater-Bartlett biography of Sister Parish, there is no need to spend the money for this one. There are no new photographs of Parish's work in this publication (through no fault of the author since most of her completed projects were never photographed), but there is no new information here either. In addition, the text, which reads like a dull textbook, is full of tangential shifts and non sequiturs as well as syntax errors and misspellings. Obviously it was rushed to press, and as a result it is technically inelegant. If you want the best compendium of Mrs. Parish's work, buy the Petkanis book, which is still available and of much better quality. I don't recommend this one.

Sister Parish, a gift
By Judith B. Harnsberger
I gave this book as a gift. I thought my friend had similar inclination in her home decorating. Personally, learning about how
designers here in the United States began their careers is interesting. Their backgrounds afforded exposure and an inherited
style that is not always possible today. I believe that if you are interested in good design, particularly in your home, that there is a
great deal to be learned from those who were in the profession early.
I don't know if the book goes into her years with Albert Hadley, but they certainly complemented one another. His approach to design may have been more subdued, but they meshed.
I am glad there is a book about Sister Parish since we can learn from the best.

Very nice, with some previously unpublished photos, would have liked a little more information I don't already know from previous volumes
